Supplementary Education and Parents' Involvement Projects
98% of parents interviewed for the Imperial College research, stated categorically that a priority for them was their child/children's education.
QPBA shares this view and for many we have provided two flagship projects in response to the identified needs.
The first is our Supplementary Education Project aimed at supporting pupils' achievements at school and beyond as well as raising their motivation and self-esteem.
The Supplementary Education Project has two formats:
- GCSE Homework Clubs for Boys and Girls
- Supplementary/Saturday School for children.
Our Supplementary School is run in partnership with the Wilberforce Primary School who provide three classrooms for our use during term time. As well as the Paddington Association of Supplementary Schools (PASS) and Paddington Development Trust (PDT), who provide generous grants to facilitate the improvement of Bengali achievements in education.
Children are taught
- Mother tongue
- English
- Science and
- Mathematics
All lesson plans follow mainstream curriculum and in different level. These classes help children with their homework as well as offering an opportunity to learn their culture and heritage.
Our Parent Involvement Project aims:
- To help and support Bangladeshi parents living in Queen's Park, Harrow Road, Maida Vale and Westbourne Park areas to gain access and understand their children's education;
- To publicise and disseminate bi-lingual information of the project to the local Bengali Parents;
- To undertake home visits and liaison with educational establishments in the area to gather information about children's achievement;
- To organise and facilitate meetings and discussions with parents about their children education, issues relating to attendance, homework, under-achievement and long time unauthorised absence from school, etc.
